As part of the pilot project of the Ukrainian Deminers Association’s (UDA) project “Mine Risk Education for Ukrainian Public Schools (age 12-18) – Train the Teacher on Mine Safety by the UDA” Project Manager Serhiy Chutkiy visited Dnipro city.

Dnipro city will be one of the cities implementing the UDA’s project. It should be noted, that on February 29, 2020 as a result of not correct model of behavior with explosive object the 8-year-old boy suffered. The child has a traumatic amputation of the left arm, shrapnel wounds almost all over the body. The UDA, together with international partners, has repeatedly stressed the need to hold mine risk education (MRE) sessions throughout Ukraine.

At a meeting with representatives of the Department of Humanitarian Policy of the Dnipro City Council, the details of the project were discussed, as well as 6 secondary schools in Dnipro were identified. Teachers, in the above mentioned schools, will receive MRE Training for Trainers and Who will successfully pass the exam will get appropriate MRE Instructor certificate.

In addition, the representative of the Ukrainian Deminers Association at the invitation of the Department of Humanitarian Policy took part in a military-patriotic event in Dnipro city, organized by the Dnipro City Council.

We hope that the organization of effective systematic training of teachers in this direction will significantly increase the level of safety among children through their greater awareness of threats and conscious change of behavior to safe. And these are the lives and health of our children saved!
