Mine Awareness Week in frontline areas

On the occasion of the International Mine Awareness Day, the Ukrainian Deminers Association (UDA) together with the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, held a Mine Awareness Week. As part of this event, from April 7-9, 2021, representatives of the UDA and the Ministry visited the cities of Toretsk, Donetsk region, the town of Stanytsia-Luhanska and the city of Schastye of Luhansk region.

Representatives of the UDA and the Ministry, who were also joined by deminers from State Emergency Service, held a series of meetings with the leadership of the Local Administrations of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, employees of critical infrastructure enterprises, visited schools along the contact line. Explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) sessions were held with adults and children, the necessary literature was distributed (information brochures, manuals “Mine Safety” for teachers and the working staff, children’s comics on the correct behaviour in terms of mine and UXO risks). The total number of people who passed the EORE sessions – 228 people, including 159 – children and 69 – adults.

We hope that the measures taken will help the population of the frontline settlements to increase the level of security in the region.
