The First Step Toward Safer Territories

Non-Technical Survey (NTS) is the initial stage of humanitarian demining.

During NTS, specialists collect and analyze information about potential contamination of an area with explosive ordnance. They review available data, communicate with local residents and authorities, document signs of danger, and define the boundaries of areas requiring further survey or clearance. Based on the results of their work, an official report is prepared and submitted to the Mine Action Centre for further processing and decision-making.

As part of the project implemented by the Ukrainian Deminers Association in partnership with the international humanitarian organization MAG (Mines Advisory Group), with financial support from the European Union, NTS teams achieved the following between May 1 and June 16, 2026:

  • prepared 101 reports based on surveyed areas;
  • identified 7 contaminated areas;
  • surveyed 55,569.6 hectares of land;
  • worked in five regions of Ukraine: Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv oblasts.

Each report helps more accurately identify areas that require further mine action activities and brings communities closer to the safe use of their land.

Together with our partners, we continue working to make Ukrainian territories safer for living and recovery.
