Marking of Hazardous Areas

Marking of areas: what was achieved in April

Areas contaminated with explosive ordnance do not always look threatening. Fields, roadsides, or forest belts may seem ordinary, yet they pose significant risks to humans. That is why it is crucial not only to clear such areas but also to mark them clearly. Marking helps people navigate safely and prevents them from entering zones where it could cost them their lives.

In the Kharkiv region, the Ukrainian Deminers Association, in partnership with the international humanitarian organization CESVI, continues to implement the area marking project “SAFE STEPS: Humanitarian Initiative for Safe Return to Conflict-Affected Areas in the Kharkiv Region,” supported by MAECI through AICS. The marking process includes installing warning signs and fencing that clearly define the boundaries of hazardous areas, helping people avoid potentially dangerous zones in their daily lives.

In April, the team operated in an active phase. During this period, 13,208 linear meters of hazardous areas were marked. The work was carried out under a complex security situation, in compliance with all necessary safety measures and in constant coordination with relevant authorities.

Despite this, the work goes on. Step by step, we are making these areas more understandable and safer for people.

We thank our partners for supporting this work.

Let’s make Ukraine safe together 🖤💛
