Members of the Ukrainian Deminers Association (UDA) and the humanitarian sector continue to improve their knowledge.
Project managers of the UDA Anikina Kateryna and Symonenko Ulyana participated in training conducted as part of the “SOLVE: Strengthening Organizations for Long-Term Impact” project, for three days in August. It is implemented by ISAR Ednannia with the support of Save the Children in Ukraine and Humanitarian Leadership Academy.

During these days, we discussed team building, the specifics of project management, and fundraising. We were once again convinced that knowledge can always be new, and there can never be too much of it.

In addition, on August 28-30, Viktoriia Arnautova, a gender specialist at the UDA, had the honor of participating in a training for trainers on the implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), which took place in Kyiv. This was an extremely important event aimed at raising awareness and effectiveness in implementing gender equality in business.
WEPs is a roadmap for achieving gender equality in the workplace, which helps create an inclusive environment and increases team effectiveness. “I gained important knowledge and tools that will help our organization not only implement gender equality, but also increase the level of safety in humanitarian demining processes,” shared Victoria.

What does this mean for us? This initiative allows us to better understand how the implementation of gender approaches can strengthen the work of the organization, make it more inclusive and effective. The implementation of WEPs will help UDA create a more balanced working environment, which will ensure the attraction of talented women to our team, increase the motivation of employees, and also strengthen our reputation as a responsible organization.
After the training mentioned above, on September 10 of this year, UDA’s representatives participated in the international seminar “Gender Aspects in Mine Action”, which was organized by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine jointly with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
OSCE Gender Advisor Paul Fraley and Ukrainian gender expert in the field of “Women, Peace and Security” and WEPs Business Viktoriia Arnautova emphasized the importance of gender aspects in mine action and the impact of gender roles and relationships on the effectiveness and inclusiveness of mine action operations.

The Ukrainian Deminers Association is also working towards forming gender-balanced teams. UDA recently sent a team of women to receive training in the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) at the MAT Kosovo Training Center.

Together we work to create a safe and just world where everyone has equal opportunities! The Ukrainian Deminers Association creates equal opportunities for women in demining teams.
