Tymur Pistriuha is the founder and Head of the NGO Ukrainian Deminers Association (UDA), a war veteran, reserve lieutenant colonel, and mine action professional with more than 16 years of experience in military service and work in the security, defence, and humanitarian sectors.
He holds two master’s degrees with honours in International Relations and Military Management. He has undertaken education and training in Ukraine and abroad, including at the Australian Defence College. He participated in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Liberia and has implemented projects in the fields of international security, defence, and humanitarian action.
In 2018, he founded the Ukrainian Deminers Association and was elected its Head. Under his leadership, UDA has become one of the most active national mine action operators in Ukraine and has implemented more than 50 humanitarian projects, primarily in the field of humanitarian mine action, with the support of foreign governments, United Nations agencies, international organisations, and charitable foundations.
Tymur Pistriuha holds a wide range of professional certifications and has completed extensive training in mine action, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), the Mine Action Managers Course (GICHD), the Quality Management Training Course (GICHD), the Animal Detection Systems (ADS) Managers Course, as well as numerous courses on the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), risk management, safety and security, and humanitarian programme management. He has also completed specialised programmes in leadership and non-governmental organisation management (NGO Leadership).
Today, he is actively engaged in strengthening Ukraine’s national capacity for humanitarian mine action, advancing localisation principles, introducing innovative technologies, expanding the role of women in mine action, and developing international partnerships.
He is a regular participant in international conferences, professional platforms, and working groups focused on humanitarian mine action, the restoration of affected areas, and international partnerships.
He is fluent in Ukrainian, English, and Russian, has an advanced command of Turkish, and a basic command of French.professional training in Ukraine and abroad, including at the Australian Defence College.
